What is Smart DRS?
Smart DRS is an AI-powered deposit return and reusable packaging collection solution, developed as a Sensoneo spin-off. It builds on Sensoneo’s experience designing and operating deposit return system (DRS) IT systems in nine countries, as well as delivering smart waste management projects in more than 90 countries worldwide. This expertise directly shapes the development of Smart DRS collection technologies.
Smart DRS rethinks packaging collection for both single-use and reusable packaging. It replaces expensive reverse vending machines (RVMs) with affordable, AI-verified collection solutions that can integrate with existing return infrastructure or operate as standalone collection points.

Its AI-powered recognition technology supports multiple identification methods, including visual recognition, QR codes, Data Matrix, UIC and RFID. This flexibility enables Smart DRS to support a wide range of packaging categories beyond beverage containers, including food, takeaway and drugstore packaging, reusable cups, refillable packaging and other deposit-bearing products.
The technology can also integrate with existing operational infrastructure, such as washing systems and back-of-house processes, ensuring smooth implementation with minimal disruption.
